These are the final comps for my client’s website. She is an author and she is wanting to show off her writing pieces and have a place for her character profiles to be displayed public-ally as well and this is what I strive to give her.

Someone had commented that they didn’t right off know that it was an author’s website and that it should say that somewhere on the home page, but I thought that’d be a little too literal since there is a button to where a directory of sorts is going to be for her writing pieces. Other than that all responses from both the client and other classmates have been pretty positive and what I was looking for so here they are and here they’ll stay.

Brainstorm 1 for Final Project

•September 23, 2009 • 1 Comment

Since last semester I did my own portfolio, I agreed with one of my best friends to make her a portfolio for her writing and to showcase her characters this time around.

We’ve been sort of planning this for a while but haven’t taken the leap just yet.  Currently she’s getting together all of the fictional, non-fiction and essay pieces she wants to present on there, and we’ll have no problems working closely together on this.

Navigation:

Home (with a blog layout?)

Characters:

___this page will have links to different pages for each section of characters.  Not all of her characters fit in different series or shorts, so for each series or separate short there will be a separate page for their information, characters will not get individual pages, the series will get their pages.  These pages will also link to the works that they are in.

Featured:

___This will have different graphical links to Fiction, Nonfiction and Essays which will each have their own separate pages and then on those pages have links to the pieces she would like to showcase.  (These are NOT links to word documents.  We’d like viewers to read the shorts, or essays but NOT download them.  I’d like to find a way to see if we can make it so you can’t right click or save the page to protect her works, but that’s probably much more advanced than this class will allow.)

About the Author (resume of sorts)

Text links at the bottom will be for each of the main sections, and to the sections in the featured works.  Sitemap?  Might be helpful.  Breadcrumbs might also be a very helpful way to backtrack.

Not exactly sure on how I’m going to layout the general site, I want to stay on top of this and start early.  Also need to figure out a brand that is professional but sort of the cartoony, fun style she likes so much as well as a general color scheme.

So far, she’s picking out what she wants to feature and is looking forward to the progress as well as brainstorming the exact content she wants.  We’ve talked about the project many times and she fully understand the requirements for the class.  Both of us are eager to start.

Welcome to my Roamings

•September 1, 2009 • 2 Comments

Hello one and all, my name is Samantha, and I’ll be 20 on September 11th.

Certain events happened last semester which are now causing me to retake this wonderful class, I assure you, it’s not because the class is hard, it’s because life was.  =3

However~!  Those days are gone, despite having more responsibility than I had before, things are much better and more where I need them to be.  I changed jobs right after classes ended from working at Hancock Fabrics (which I worked at for 1 year and 8 months) down by the BJs on Ritchie Highway, to working at the Severna Park Office Depot.  The work is a little more demanding, but I’m guaranteed hours and better pay than before.  Either way, it’s definitely opened my eyes that I really want a desk job after this.  (But like that’s going to happen, you know?)

I’m majoring in Graphic Design, but I also sort of want to test now programming as well, to see if I like it just as much as I like to draw, because if I do, I want to see if I can double major.  I know it will take me quite a while to get there (since my plan is to only take 2 MAYBE 3 classes each semester while I work, and then a class during the summer) but I think it would be worth my while.  I pay for my own tuition, books, the majority of my essentials… pretty much everything except rent and car insurance, so working less is sort of out of the question.

A few brief things about me:

  • My best friend lives in Michigan, but is currently at college in Wisconsin. (I miss her, we don’t get to talk as much.)
  • My favorite color is green, but I often choose to draw myself wearing blues.
  • For the life of me I haven’t found a good way to blend brown and green together, so when I try to color hazel eyes, they wind up just being either green or brown.
  • My favorite ice cream is the Good Humor Strawberry Shortcake bars.  (Even though I love chocolate ice cream.)
  • I love cats, but my dogs seem to love me more.  (Dad won’t let me get a kitten, says one cat’s enough even though we used to have two.)
  • My youngest sister (I’m the oldest of three girls) looks just like me, it’s a bit scary, but she’s a lot simpler than me (in taste) and that’s saying something.  XD
  • The middle sister is the only one in my family with blonde hair and blue eyes, but they still call her by my name instead.

Hope the future holds something bright and good for you and have a wonderful time this semester in CAT274.
